Reylight LanApple

Max 600 lumens.

Light comes with a rechargeable 14500 battery.   (Unprotected, button top cell is suggested. Protected one is longer, it might give too much pressure to the spring and cause an issue.)

Eneloop NiMH and Alkaline AA works well too.

(Energizer Lithium Primary 1.5V battery might have a problem. The inside of it is still lithium, and the voltage and discharging current is limited.)

Specs:

  • Material: 6063 aluminum
  • Nichia 519a 4000K

  • LVP (low voltage protection) for Li-ion battery

Programming Guide

1. Turn on the light.

2. Press the button 8+ times. The light will now blink once, then strobe, blink twice, then strobe, blink three times, then strobe…After 5 blinks and a strobe, the sequence repeats.

a. 1 blink: mode group selection. Press the button to enter this menu.

i. 1 blink: (ML)-2%-20%-100%

ii. 2nd blink: (ML)-10%-40%-100%

iii. 3rd blink: (ML)-2%-10%-50%

iv. 4th blink: (ML)-50%-100%-strobe-SOS

It then repeats. Press the button during any blink to select that mode group.

b. 2 blinks: mode memory on-off toggle (default off). Press the button during the two blinks or during the strobe after to turn mode memory on. Repeat to turn mode memory off.

c. 3 blinks: moonlight mode off-on toggle (default on). Press the button during the three blinks or during the strobe after to turn moonlight off. Repeat to turn moonlight on.

d. 4 blinks: mode order toggle (default LMH). Press the button during the four blinks or during the strobe after to change the mode order from Low Medium High to High Medium Low. Repeat to reverse the order.

e. 5 blinks: factory reset. Press the button during the five blinks or during the strobe after to reset the light to factory settings.

Shorcut: quick double tap to turbo.

Perfect size, great beam pattern and tint

This is now the light I carry when spending time indoors. It is the perfect size for the pocket and fits my hand just right. Some potential detractors are that it does get fairly warm at a given brightness compared to other non-hiCRI lights, but that makes sense considering the amount of red frequency it emits. Also, the coating is a little prone to chipping compared to rugged outdoor lights like Streamlight. The tail switch gives a satisfying sounding metallic click. I love it. What I love even more is the quality of light it produces. The orange peel reflector creates a gradual fade into the spill area, which brings out the 3D depth of things like the inside of drawers, shelves, or closets. When set on the 10% mode (moonlight turned off) my near work is illuminated with vibrant "technicolor"!

Excellent EDC!

Perfect small edc light. I like that this unit can use standard and rechargeable cells. The UI is simple and has the ability to be programmed into diffrent settings. Build quality is superb! I do wish they offered some cooler color temps somwhere in the 5-6k range. I like warmer colors for indoors and close inspections. I prefer edc lights on the colder side if I just need to take a quick look at something. I also work outside and cooler temps seem to do better under sunlight. I've made several purchases from Killzone. Shipped FAST, very well packaged. Don't hesitate to buy from this company! I will again for sure!

My best (Reylight) so far ...

I always wanted a 14500/AA aluminum version of the Reylight Pineapple Mini, but never found one until the LanApples became available. I like the LanApple because it has higher outputs and longer run times than the Pineapple Mini. Another bonus is that the LanApple has the 4500K Nichia 519b compared to the Pineapple Mini I have that has a cooler Nichia 219b. The switch action on the LanApple is better than the Pineapple Mini (which could use a firmer spring, because I sometimes find it difficult to switch between modes without accidentally clicking the switch and turning the flashlight off). I also like the clip, which has the 5 “apple” seed design. So the LanApple is my favorite Reylight, but my second favorite among 14500/AA flashlights (more on this below).

For me, the main reason is that the mode groups are a compromise between useful outputs and having strobe/SOS available. I like mode group 1 with moonlight-2%-20%-100%, which translates to about 12 lumens, 120 lumens and 600 lumens for the non moonlight modes. I would use 120 lumens the most, for getting around the house at night.

For outdoor use, something like 240 lumens would be useful to me, but that’s only available in mode group 2, which doesn’t have the 20% (120 lumen) mode.
To get strobe and SOS, I have to select mode group 4 (moonlight-50%-100%-strobe-SOS), which doesn’t work so well for me for indoor use. With a AA battery, mode group 4 outputs are more manageable, but I don’t get the maximum brightness of a 14500 battery, if I need it.

To be honest, I don’t really need the strobe or SOS, but who knows if an emergency might ever arise where it’s needed? For now, I’ll stick to mode group 2 with a 14500 battery.

There are 14500/AA flashlights with the Anduril 2 UI, which gives ramping or stepped modes, strobe/blinky modes and battery check, such as the Sofirn SP10 Pro (which has a one year warranty), and I might use it for most non-critical situations. Killzone Flashlights sells the 14500/AA Skilhunt M150, which offers 7 brightness modes and 3 strobes (with a two year warranty), but knowing that the Reylight comes with a lifetime warranty, it would be my go-to light for simplicity of use, and something I could count on for years to come.
